Today I am showing a step by step directions to personalize a cooler. I am participating in the September Silhouette Challenge which is Outdoors and a bonus of Green. Let's see How I cover those tasks with my project. We have all been to a soccer game with the other parents trying to figure out which pile belongs to our family. This will help keep you more organized on the treat days, sporting events, or even label the bag groceries to bring home your frozen foods. I use the cooler bag for the grocery store and a day on the boat at the lake.
I bought this bag last summer on clearance from JoAnn's Crafts Store. I love the color for my lake house. While I was working on this project my oldest son (A) commented on the colors of the cooler. He said teal and green are the themes of the lake house. I said those are the colors because they remind me of the beach. He said he liked it. Which is quite a compliment coming from an Architect and Mechanical Engineer with an eye for design!
Sorry. Back to the project. I simply selected a design and a font from my Silhouette library. Measured for the size of the bag and modified the size of the ship wheel. Click here for the tutorial on how to change the size to fit your cooler or item. Next I chose a font that complimented my design, typed our name and repeated the sizing process.
Just like you when I am working on a project sometimes the items are not available where I am located. I had planned on using adhesive vinyl for the stencil but, the store was out. I was at the wrong house because, my vinyl and contact paper stash are in Illinois. I am building my stash at the Michigan. Back to another make it work moment. Click here so see more. I changed to medium cardstock and instead of paint the Navy Sharpie was a decent solution.
I love the purr of the Silhouette Cameo cutting my design because, next I get to create with my own busy hands. She even looks pretty on my machinists chest in my lake house craft space.
Time to weed the design in reverse. Did you notice the remaining design on the mat? I will use that too to complete the cooler project.
My son (A) and his girlfriend were at the house with us. She took a few pictures for me while I worked. This is a special treat for me because most of my work is done at home while my Prince Charming and sons are working.
She was so sweet she even made sure she had good angles of my hands and no additional body parts. LOL! Thank you, sweetheart, for this special treat. Remember earlier I said the Sharpie Marker on this fabric was a decent solution. I saw a little bleed of ink into the fabric which is why I would use a paint instead for the future. I could have used Mod Podge to seal the edge. with the paint process. I am fine with it for now, but I may go over it in the future with a trim color or outline the whole design. My mind is not made up on that plan yet.
The Silhouette Challenge this month is Outdoors and Green is a Bonus. Check and double Check. I finished my post we all went outdoors on the boat for a couple of hours. The cooler was full, they kids aka (adult children) went water skiing and when they were done we floated in the cove with a cool beverage in my Koozie.

Very cute, Karen Marie! Good thinking on improvising with a Sharpie marker!
This is very cute! My boyfriend is a sailor so I love all things nautical! Great job!

So adorable! There's definitely no way to get mixed up now, that bag is all yours! :)

Sam,
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my personalized cooler. One time we accidently left a life jacket on a friends boat. By the time, I realized it their name was written on the back by a weekend guest. Now we have two names and a dragonfly on that vest.
Happy Creating,
Karen Marie
Pam,
